A deliverable for the 2024 Research and Innovation Working Group of the G20
The cultivation of clean energy technologies is critical to local economic prosperity and a major global market opportunity. Energy innovation is critical to achieving emissions reduction targets. Countries around the world are striving to be leaders in clean energy technology innovation. To facilitate international exchanges, the G20 has developed a compilation of energy innovation policies. Innovation can accelerate technological change and help countries reach the tipping point where clean energy benefits become apparent more quickly. However, designing and evaluating these policy measures remains a challenge. The evaluation of clean energy innovation policy has become a top priority for the government

New frontiers of the energy transition
In recent years, climate and energy policy shifts have accelerated the energy transition, with decarbonization, energy security and affordability high on the international agenda. Industrial policies such as the US Inflation Reduction Act and the European Union's Green Industrial Strategy have disrupted the traditional energy landscape and created new opportunities for competition and cooperation between companies and governments. To this end, policymakers, the private sector, multilateral organizations and others will participate in high-level discussions, exchanges and workshops on future energy systems to explore new frontiers in the global energy transition.

‘Without nuclear, it will be almost impossible to decarbonize by 2050’, UN atomic energy chief
The head of the UN Atomic Energy Agency pointed out that nuclear energy was endorsed at the UN climate Conference in Dubai in 2023 as an important low-emission technology to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Nuclear power currently accounts for more than a third of clean, CO2-free energy globally and half of it in Europe. Several key countries have pledged to increase their share of nuclear energy. According to the International Panel on Climate Change, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will be virtually impossible without nuclear power.
